Do I need to start working right away once sponsored by an employment-based green card company?
My husband is the spouse of an E-2 small-business investor visa holder and has work authorization.
Through an acquaintance, we found an employment-based green card sponsor company, and they’ve agreed to sponsor him.
I’d like to know when he needs to start working once sponsored by the green card company. Does he need to start working the moment sponsorship begins?
Employment-based immigration reflects a mutual understanding that the applicant intends to work at the sponsoring company once the green card is granted, and the sponsoring company intends to hire the applicant once the green card is approved. So there’s no need to start working immediately just because you have an EAD (work permit) — you don’t need to start working before the green card is actually issued.
