Concerns about increased financial-sponsorship documentation requirements under Form I-944, and public assistance

Form I-944 requires additional documents such as the financial sponsor’s credit report, credit score, tax returns, and bank account information. On top of this, the rule that having received public assistance could result in a green card denial applies an unfavorable standard to immigrants. In this situation, it might be better to slow down and file next year instead. These rules have a good chance of being fully repealed next year. Rather than proceeding now under an unfavorable framework, we recommend waiting and safely proceeding with your green card after May 2021.
