Whether I can obtain a J-1 visa (status) after graduating from school in the U.S.
I’m about to graduate from college in the U.S. and am planning to do OPT.
However, some friends around me suggested I consider J-1 instead, so I’m considering applying for J-1.
I’d like to know if I’m eligible to apply.
If you completed your entire education solely in the U.S., you likely wouldn’t be able to use the J-1 visa (status), which is intended for cultural exchange between two countries. This is because, in theory, you don’t have the kind of background that would support a genuine cultural exchange.
