Hello, I’m an international student majoring in a STEM field.
I’ll be applying for OPT after finishing college, and I’d like to know the eligibility requirements and process in detail.

The eligibility requirements are as follows:
1. You must have OPT approved and currently be participating in valid OPT.
2. At the time of the STEM OPT extension application, you must have received a bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral STEM degree from an SEVP-certified school (to meet STEM OPT eligibility, your major must be included on the STEM Designated Degree List).
3. Your employer must be E-Verify enrolled and meet the STEM OPT Employer Requirements and Responsibilities.
You must submit Form I-765 within 90 days before your current OPT ends, and within 60 days of your DSO (Designated School Official) recommending STEM OPT in SEVIS.
The documents needed for a STEM OPT application are:
1. Form I-765, filing fee
2. Entry/exit record I-94
3. Copy of your visa
4. Copy of your passport
5. I-20 with STEM OPT recommended
6. 2 passport photos
7. Copy of the front and back of your EAD
8. Copy of your STEM degree, or a transcript showing the STEM degree
