What qualifications does a STEM OPT employer need to meet?
A student I know through an acquaintance sent our company a resume asking us to sponsor their OPT. But should just any company sign off on this?
I’d like to know what requirements need to be met.
I’d briefly like to know, if certain requirements are needed, what exactly needs to be done.
To qualify as a STEM OPT employer, the following must be met:
1. First, you must be enrolled in E-Verify (the online identity verification program) operated by USCIS.
2. The company must submit Form I-983 (the STEM OPT training plan) to the school.
Once the OPT application is complete, finally, keep in mind that the OPT student must be paid for at least 20 hours of work per week during STEM OPT in order to maintain status.
