I’m planning to go through employment-based green card immigration through a business run by a relative.
Would it be fine to disclose the family relationship from the start and proceed? Since they’re not a sibling or immediate family, I’m wondering if it might still be possible.

During the PERM process, your relationship to the sponsor is checked, and disclosing a family/relative relationship at the time of filing PERM significantly increases the chance of denial. Looking at real cases, disclosing a family/relative relationship and proceeding domestically becomes a ground for denial when the business belongs to family/relatives, and proceeding through the U.S. Embassy in Korea has virtually no chance of success.
If you claim it’s not a family/relative relationship, there are cases where PERM gets approved as-is. However, if this is later investigated and confirmed, it could be revoked, or canceled during the green card process, and if it’s determined that you misrepresented the relationship, it could also become a disqualifying issue for pursuing a green card through a different method later. Given how serious this could be, if you have a family/relative relationship with the sponsor, we recommend not proceeding at all. Even setting aside this specific reason, there’s a strong tendency for various other reasons and grounds to be created and demanded as documentation, raising the bar for green card immigration and ultimately leading to denial.
