How to change my U.S. entry date after green card approval
I had my green card interview through the U.S. consulate in Korea and was approved.
However, due to personal circumstances, it looks like I won’t be able to enter by the last valid date.
I’d like to know what to do in this situation. Is an extension possible?
An immigrant visa is typically valid for 6 months, and if you don’t enter before it expires, it becomes void. You’d have to go through the entire visa application process again from scratch — for example, refiling Form DS-260 and reissuing every required document to attach as supporting documentation. Being approved once doesn’t guarantee approval the next time, and it could even be denied. To avoid this hassle, we recommend first entering the U.S., and then going back to Korea afterward if needed.
