I’ve heard the fingerprinting notice usually arrives within 1-2 weeks, but it’s been almost a month with no notice.

The fingerprinting notice is generally sent within about 1 month of filing. If it’s been over a month with no notice, we recommend visiting your InfoPass appointment and asking about the reason for the delay.
Sometimes there’s a mailing error on USCIS’s end as well, so please keep this in mind.

It’s uncommon for the Biometrics Notice to take more than a month after receiving the receipt (I-797C), but due to recent USCIS backlogs, it can sometimes take 4-6 weeks or more.

First check your case status online using your receipt number, and if 30-45 days have passed, contact the customer service center (1-800-375-5283) or use the Emma chatbot to check on your fingerprinting appointment status.

Response steps and advice:

Check status online: Enter your receipt number (MSC, LIN, etc.) on the USCIS website to confirm the status shows ‘Case Was Received.’
Contact customer service: If 45 days pass after receiving the receipt with no notice, call USCIS customer service to file a Service Request (for a document not received).
Possible fingerprint reuse: If you previously registered fingerprints for a different visa case, USCIS may reuse your prior fingerprints (Biometrics Reuse), which could delay or skip the notice.
Use InfoPass: At your already-scheduled InfoPass appointment, inform them you haven’t received the fingerprinting notice and ask them to check.
Most people receive the notice within 60 days, but if there’s still no update or change in online status after 2 months, it’s a good idea to consult with an immigration attorney to formally look into the case (Case Inquiry).
