Additional documents on maintaining lawful status during an employment-based case
I was on a student visa for 7 years, and my LC has been approved and I’m now preparing I-485. However, during about 6 months of that period, I’m unable to obtain transcripts or attendance records.
I’d like to know if this could result in a denial.
At the I-485 stage, USCIS reviews your entire history from when you were a student up to now. It would be good to prepare as much related documentation as possible in advance (transcripts, class notes, attendance records, diplomas, etc.). If that particular gap period is genuinely impossible to document, you’ll need to address it afterward. It would help to calculate whether that gap exceeds 180 days.
