Applying for an IR1 spouse-sponsorship immigrant visa
I’m planning to move to the U.S. for work, and I’d like to apply for an IR1 visa to obtain a U.S. Working permit.
I’ve heard from people around me that if you apply for an IR1 visa, the EAD card comes out within 1-2 months and you can work in the U.S.
Since my wife is a U.S. citizen, I’d like to know if I can indeed get the EAD card quickly as people say, or if there’s another way to obtain a Working permit.
If you proceed from abroad, not the U.S., you’d need to go through the immigrant visa process — if you enter with an immigrant visa, you’ll immediately receive a green card card and can work right away.
If you proceed within the U.S., I think the EAD work authorization card would currently be issued in about 6 to 8 months.
