Can a DACA recipient with work authorization apply for unemployment benefits?
I’m a DACA recipient with work authorization.
I’m considering applying for unemployment benefits after being temporarily let go from my company, but I’m worried this could count as public assistance and hurt my green card process later.
I’d like to know if DACA recipients can receive unemployment benefits, and whether there would be any legal issue.
A DACA recipient with work authorization is eligible for unemployment benefits, and this does not count as public assistance. In other words, unemployment benefits are not public assistance, and there should be no negative consequence afterward.
