Can I cancel my green card sponsorship after marrying?
Can I cancel my green card sponsorship after marrying? After registering the marriage, I no longer feel confident about my spouse and feel let down — I’d like to cancel the green card sponsorship. This honestly feels like fraud to me — I’d like to know if I can cancel the green card sponsorship in this situation, and whether an annulment is possible.
For divorce and green card issues, please contact our office’s civil matters department at T. 212-321-0311 / info@eslaws.com for detailed guidance.
First,
For a marriage-based family green card sponsorship, you can cancel the sponsorship yourself. In this case, you don’t need the consent of the spouse who filed for the conditional green card.
Also, if the marriage was short, you may be able to consider an annulment on grounds such as fraud. If annulment would be a better option than divorce, we recommend proceeding before the 3-month mark if possible.
