Can other family members help with the financial sponsorship for a citizen’s spouse petition?
As a U.S. citizen, my tax filings are weak. My future spouse is currently on OPT status and isn’t earning much. Because of this financial sponsorship issue, and since it’s difficult to ask someone outside the family, I’d like to know if another family member can help as a co-sponsor.
Yes, other family members can also serve as co-sponsors. In addition to the citizen, up to two additional household members can serve as joint sponsors. And if your future spouse is on OPT, submitting their OPT income or tax filings can also help.
