I filed to change from F-1 student status to O-1. However, I’ve ended up going back to studying as a student.
I’d like to know if I can switch back to a student visa even while my O-1 application is still pending. I’ve filed and am currently waiting on the decision.

You should first wait for the outcome of the O visa. Right now you only have the receipt notice, so you need to find out whether the O visa is approved or denied. To attend school, you fundamentally need F-1 status, and the prerequisite for that is that you must first obtain an I-20.
