Changing sponsors after I-140 approval

In an employment-based green card case, changing locations or sponsors after I-140 approval can certainly affect your green card. If the company stays the same but only the work location changes, you should confirm whether the company uses the same company name and tax ID — if it’s recognized as the same company, the location change is likely fine.

However, if a different company name or tax ID is used, it’s considered a change of employer, so the green card process must start over from the beginning. Therefore, changing sponsors means restarting the process from the labor certification (LC) stage with the new sponsoring company — a job change during an employment-based case is therefore a major factor to consider.
