Could a past DUI record cause a problem upon re-entry?
I’m a green card holder. It’s been a long time since I last traveled abroad, and I haven’t applied for citizenship yet.
I’m planning to travel abroad, but I have two past DUI records, and I’ve heard this could cause a problem upon re-entry. Is there a specific document I should carry at the port of entry?
Media reports suggest re-entry issues are possible in such cases. Circumstances vary from person to person, so it can’t be said that everyone will run into trouble, but you should be prepared. When re-entering, please carry the court disposition record for that case in case it comes up during the entry inspection. If the incident occurred before you obtained your green card, the concern is smaller; if it occurred after obtaining your green card, there is a greater chance it could be raised as an issue. Please keep this in mind.
