Do I need to file taxes on a work permit received during an employment-based case?
Hello, I’ve maintained F-1 student status for a long time and am now going through employment-based immigration. I’ve heard my work permit is coming soon, but since I don’t know how the employment-based case will ultimately turn out, I’d like to maintain F-1 as much as possible. I’d like to know if it’s okay not to file taxes while maintaining F-1, even though I have this work permit.
It’s fine not to file taxes as long as you don’t actually use the work permit and instead maintain F-1 status. If you’re feeling uneasy about it, I don’t think that’s a bad choice.
