I’m on F-1 student status doing OPT, and I’m going through the green card process with a company sponsoring me.
I’d like to know if PERM labor certification approval grants lawful status. My current OPT is about to expire — would PERM approval grant me lawful status to stay?
If not, I’d like to know until when I need to maintain my status.

PERM labor certification approval does not by itself grant lawful status. It’s neither a visa nor a status. Someone going through employment-based immigration must maintain some form of lawful status at least until I-485 is filed. After I-485 is filed, not maintaining status separately is no longer treated as unlawful presence.
