I’d like to know if I can proceed with my green card application using an expired passport.
For personal reasons, the consulate denied my passport renewal, and since I’ve been out of status for a long time, I’m not sure if trying to resolve this by going back to Korea would make re-entry to the U.S. impossible.

If you’ve been out of status for a long time, re-entry would likely be very difficult. Also, while an expired passport might seem like it wouldn’t be accepted since it’s not currently valid, it can still be accepted even without being valid.
