I can’t get a copy of my USCIS filing documents that my company’s attorney submitted.
I need copies of my immigration documents, so I asked the company for a copy, but they won’t provide one.
If the company’s attorney won’t give me copies of the USCIS filings made on my behalf, I’d like to know if I can request them directly from USCIS. The attorney says they were hired by the company, not by me, so they can’t provide them to me. I’m not sure what I can do about this.
You can request them through USCIS. Also, even though the attorney was hired by the company, this is your own information, so you might try emailing and calling the company’s attorney explaining that you’re entitled to request it. You can file a FOIA request with USCIS to obtain those documents, and if the request for copies is refused, you can note that this may violate professional conduct rules and press the request firmly.
