If I obtain an SSN using my Work Permit, does that count as having worked?
Hello. I’m in a position where I need to keep my nonimmigrant status alive in case my current green card application is denied.
I received my Work Permit and then obtained an SSN. I’d like to know if this means I’m considered to have worked, simply by having used the Work Permit this way.
Simply obtaining an SSN using your Work Permit alone likely wouldn’t be seen as having worked through that Work Permit. If you received paychecks, or filed taxes under your own name via W-2 or 1099, that could be recognized as evidence that you worked.
