I’m being threatened that my green card sponsorship will be canceled after marriage.
I got married and filed for my conditional green card, and I’m currently waiting. But my spouse is threatening to withdraw the green card sponsorship and report me to USCIS to make me out of status. If they cancel the sponsorship, what happens to me? I’d also like to know if I could receive alimony if we end up divorcing this way.
If the green card sponsorship is withdrawn before you’ve received your conditional green card, your green card application would be canceled. Since you’ve only been married a short time, spousal support would generally be determined based on income, assets, and contribution, but since your financial contribution to the marriage was likely small, you probably shouldn’t expect much in the way of alimony.
