Question about eligibility for unemployment benefits for someone who received work authorization through a green card sponsor company
I filed for employment-based EB-3 immigration while on F-1 status, and I-140 has been approved and I’ve even received work authorization.
At first, since I was on student status, I didn’t work at the sponsoring company, and later, after I-140 approval, I received the work permit, but I’ve just been waiting for the green card approval without actually working yet.
I’d like to know if I’m also eligible to apply for unemployment benefits.
If you’re going through the green card process with this sponsoring company and have obtained work authorization, and you apply for unemployment benefits, you must be sure to return to work at the company once the COVID shutdown ends. Keep this firmly in mind, and you can go ahead and apply — applying is still possible.
