Question about the required investment amount for an E-2 small-business investor visa
I’m planning to change status to E-2. I’d like to know roughly how much total investment is needed, and whether it becomes harder to get an extension if there’s no profit early on.
I expect it may be difficult in the beginning. I’d also like to know if I’m required to hire an employee.
The required investment for an E-2 visa varies depending on the type of business you’re running. Also, it’s fine not to have profit in the first few years, as long as your business plan is well written. As for the investment funds — if the source of funds is clear, you don’t necessarily need to spend all of it (some can simply be held), but for job creation, hiring employees is important both for the initial E-2 issuance and for renewal.
