The relationship with the sponsor at the consular interview for unskilled employment-based immigration

For employment-based cases, they sometimes ask about the relationship with the sponsor — whether they’re a friend, relative, or close neighbor. This is to identify the possibility that the sponsorship is arranged collusively between acquaintances, rather than a genuine employment-based process, to resolve someone’s immigration status — which USCIS prohibits. In other words, it’s a process to verify the genuine intention behind the employment-based application (verifying that it’s a genuine intention to apply for EB-2 or EB-3, not just a scheme to obtain a green card).
