Whether I can change companies after 180 days have passed since receiving the I-485 receipt notice
1. You mentioned the 180-day rule applies after I-485 filing — does that mean after receiving the I-485 receipt notice (not the I-485 approval notice), 180 days later, I can change companies?
2. I’m currently working full-time at the company going through PERM — could I also work part-time at a different company under H-1B? If so, I’d like to know if I’d need to go through PERM there too.
Hello. First, regarding question 1, that’s correct. And for question 2, if you don’t currently have an EAD under your status, you can separately obtain an H-1B and work there. And if you’re not planning to pursue a green card through the other company, you don’t need to go through PERM there.
