Assault issue on student visa status and question about a green card application
While on a student visa, I got into an altercation while drinking and went through a court case that was ultimately dismissed. If I later marry a U.S. citizen and apply for a green card, I’d like to know if I can be exempted from removal proceedings, or whether this could cause a problem in obtaining a green card.
Ask your criminal defense attorney exactly how the matter was resolved. Since this is already resolved and was dismissed, it likely shouldn’t be a problem, but the outcome can vary depending on the severity of the assault and the exact disposition.
