Can I adopt a relative?
I’m considering adopting a young relative whose family circumstances aren’t good, in order to give them an education in the U.S. I’d like to know if it would be a significant problem that the adopter is a relative.

We’ve seen plenty of successful adoption cases even involving relatives. However, because it’s a relative, the process is handled with more scrutiny. Adopting a relative purely for educational purposes has a high chance of being rejected, so there needs to be another qualifying reason — for example, child abuse or the child being an orphan are common grounds.
