You have an SSN, but since you don’t currently have work authorization, you’re not in a position to legally work. However, even someone out of status still has a tax-law obligation to file taxes. In other words, you cannot legally work under immigration law, but you still have a tax-filing obligation under tax law. That said, please understand that while working while out of status is itself an immigration-law violation, if you are working and earning money to support yourself, you still need to file your taxes.
