Could my green card application be hurt by my fiancé(e)’s unlawful status?
My I-485 is pending, and I’m getting married next year; my fiancé(e) is currently out of status. I expect to receive my green card soon, and I plan to sponsor my fiancé(e) after I become a citizen. My question is whether my green card application could be hurt by my fiancé(e)’s unlawful status, and whether there’s any issue with registering the marriage now.
If it would hurt my case, I could delay registering the marriage.
There’s no reason to delay registering the marriage — especially if you’ve been in the U.S. for a long time. You should register the marriage right away and proceed with the green card process immediately.
