How is the public-assistance time period calculated if I received both Medicaid and food stamps together?
I have a question related to public assistance.
In the past, I received both Medicaid and food stamps together for two months. I’m asking because I saw an answer here saying that if you haven’t received public assistance for a long period, it might not be grounds for green card denial.
In my case, would it be reasonable to count my period of receiving public assistance as just two months?
No — as in your case, the calculation method for public assistance is designed to be less favorable to immigrants: Medicaid for two months + food stamps for two months = counted as four months.
If you used two different types of public assistance for two months each, they’re added together and treated as having received four months total. Please keep this in mind.
