I’d like to know what counts as public assistance.
I saw news that I might need to resubmit public-assistance-related documents before my green card process. I’d like to do a preliminary check — what counts as public assistance?
I’d also like to know if things like Obamacare or emergency treatment count as public assistance.
Areas that count as public assistance, and that you should avoid before obtaining your green card, include:
1. Food Stamps (SNAP)
2. Medicaid
3. Housing assistance
4. Existing SSI cash assistance
5. TANF welfare
6. Most of Medicaid (low-income health insurance)
7. Section 8 public housing rental
8. Rent vouchers, etc.
Areas that do NOT count as public assistance include Obamacare, emergency treatment, and benefits for pregnant women, minors, or citizen children — please keep this in mind.
