How many years can a Reentry Permit be issued for?
I’m planning to go to Korea. Since I expect to be there for more than a year, I’m considering applying for a Reentry Permit. I’d like to know how many total years it’s valid for, and whether I can keep reapplying whenever needed.
A Reentry Permit is typically issued for 2 years on the first application. Subsequent renewal applications are also generally granted for 2 years, though occasionally USCIS may grant only 1 year at its discretion. In particular, if you’ve spent 4 or more years abroad within the past 5 years, a 1-year Reentry Permit is issued, and there’s no limit on how many times you can apply. However, the reason for the application must be reasonable, and continued 1-year renewals remain possible after that.
