I received a request for additional evidence after filing a marriage-based green card application.
I prepared documents for a permanent green card application and filed them back in March. I was fingerprinted and am just waiting to receive my permanent green card card, but I received two letters from USCIS.
They say the documentation proving our marital relationship was insufficient and are asking me to send back around 8 items. I don’t know what to do.
My best option right now is probably to gather thorough documentation and resend it, but I’d like to know — if I prepare everything properly and resend it, will that be enough?
They’re questioning whether the marriage is genuine. We recommend submitting documents that show both your names together, photos, statements from people around you, and joint tax filings. If you two are genuinely married and living together, this shouldn’t ultimately be a problem — you just need to document it properly. Whether you have children together, whether you filed taxes jointly, and other items on the list in the request — if you prepare according to that checklist, you should get a good result.
