If my green card has been revoked, do I need to surrender it before entering the U.S.?

Generally, without surrendering the green card, there’s a conflict when trying to obtain travel authorization to the U.S. This is because a green card holder is meant to enter based on immigrant status, whereas travel authorization is granted based on nonimmigrant purposes. Since these purposes for entry conflict, this results in being unable to obtain travel authorization — so in practice, people surrender their green card and then re-enter visa-free or on a visitor visa.
