I’m a green card holder and there’s a chance I could be denied re-entry.

If you’re concerned about the possibility of being denied re-entry as a green card holder, there may be various underlying concerns, but if you’d like to travel with as much stability as possible, consider the following:

    1. Whether any related criminal/minor-offense proceedings and any community service have been completed
    2. Whether there are any outstanding warrants for you

Taking these into account, obtaining a Re-Entry Permit (travel permit) and carrying documentation showing there is no basis for denial (i.e., that the matter is cleared) is at least some preparation you can make. That said, even with a travel permit, entry can still be denied at the inspection. Because the inspecting officer’s decision is made in the moment on whatever basis they choose, there is limited room for immigration-law intervention at that exact moment.
