    Yes, hello. If you expect to be gone 6 months or more, you should definitely apply, and since fingerprinting is required, it’s best to apply early.
    USCIS generally recommends filing about 3 months in advance, since the fingerprinting appointment date can take up to about 3 months to come through. In some cases the fingerprinting date comes within a month, but the sooner you apply, the better.
