If you’re selected in the lottery, your F-1 student status is automatically extended past April 15, and your OPT work authorization status is also extended through September 30. However, if you’re not selected, you’re granted a 60-day grace period starting April 15. You’re only permitted to remain in the U.S. through around mid-June, but within that 60-day grace period, you can change to another status or extend your existing one.
