Question about the required investment amount for an E-2 small-business investor visa
I’m planning to come to the U.S. through a small-business investment. I’ve heard that you typically need to invest over $300,000 to get the visa, so I’m considering sending money first under the name of an acquaintance in the U.S. If I send around $200,000 first and later borrow another $100,000, would splitting up the funds like this still work?
For an E-2 small-business investor visa, you first need to establish a company in your own name, and depending on the industry, put any lease in the company’s name, with funds deposited into your own account. If money is instead deposited into an acquaintance’s account, this can create suspicion about the source and flow of funds and put a burden on you to re-prove where the money came from later. The required investment amount can vary depending on the industry.
