Unable to work due to company bankruptcy after obtaining a green card through employment
I received a green card through skilled employment-based immigration and entered 24 years ago.
But not long after, the U.S. company that employed me went bankrupt and closed.
I wasn’t actually able to work there for very long, and I didn’t file taxes.
Afterward, I worked other jobs and, together with my husband, have consistently filed taxes up through last year (2024).
My husband and children have all obtained citizenship,
and I’m now planning to apply for citizenship — could this be a problem?
This may raise suspicion depending on roughly how many months you actually worked before and after. Even a company bankruptcy takes 1-2 years to happen. Please prepare good documentation related to the company’s bankruptcy.
