What happens if I leave my company while on a J visa?

A J visa holder is generally expected to return to Korea (their home country) right after leaving their job — their stay is considered to have ended. That said, if unfair treatment or circumstances forced you to leave the company, this could create real concerns about your ability to remain in the U.S. To keep your stay lawful, if it’s only been a short time since you left the company, you may still be able to attempt a change of status to another category and maintain lawful status.
