Hello. My green card expired, so I filed for renewal, and then urgently had to return to Korea.
I plan to bring the card with me once the renewal comes through and enter with it, but since it’s taking time, I’d like to know if I can enter without the green card card by explaining the situation at the airport. Or would I be turned away?

Green card renewal and green card card renewal are different things. You’ve simply renewed the card — you’re still a green card holder, so you can enter with the expired card. Occasionally some airlines make an issue of this, so bringing the expired card along with proof of your renewal application should avoid any problem entering.
