Whether re-entry is possible after my green card has expired
I booked a flight to Korea for April 19th this month, and only then realized my green card’s validity period (August 18, 2020) had already passed.
I’ve already filed to renew with USCIS, but they said they’ll contact me in May, and the interview date will be announced then.
I understand the 10-year validity period isn’t a big deal — will I be able to leave the country even though mine is about 2 years past expiration?
And will I be able to re-enter the U.S. on May 23rd?
Hello. Even though it’s been 2 years, please file for your green card renewal, and then depart and re-enter afterward.
You should keep your renewal application receipt with you at all times to show if needed.
