Would missing my removal hearing prevent me from benefiting from 245(i) if it later takes effect?
I received a notice to appear at a removal hearing. I’m worried that if I go, something could go wrong and I’d be detained and deported, so I’m considering not showing up.
I’d like to know if this could later prevent me from benefiting from 245(i) or other relief legislation. I’d also like to know if there’s any chance I could be detained if I do attend the hearing.
If you don’t attend the removal hearing, you may not be able to benefit later from 245(i) or other relief measures, even if they take effect. So we recommend attending if at all possible. For reference, detention rarely happens to someone who does show up for their removal hearing.
