How many years can a Reentry Permit be issued for?
As a green card holder, I’ve ended up staying abroad for more than 365 days. I’m considering a re-entry permit.
I’d like to know the maximum number of years it can be issued for when applying, and whether it can also be extended when it expires.
It’s typically issued for 2 years initially, and you can then apply for a 2-year extension after that. Beyond that, immigration law only allows 1-year extensions at a time, but in practice, keep in mind that after about 4 years, USCIS officers generally stop issuing further Reentry Permits.
