I entered the U.S. on L-1 status. I have a long business trip to Korea coming up, and I’d like to know if I also need to obtain a re-entry permit before leaving.
Some people say I need one, others say I need to get it before leaving. I’ll be abroad for more than 6 months — I’d like to know the best option.

If you entered the U.S. on an L-1 visa, you do not need to obtain Advance Parole (a re-entry permit). Advance Parole is the travel document you’d apply for so you can travel outside the U.S. while your green card is pending and be allowed to return. For reference, H-1B holders similarly don’t need to apply for a re-entry permit either.
