Hello.
I changed status within the U.S. and also extended my stay period. I need to urgently go to Korea, but I’ve heard that if you extend your stay period within the U.S., you can never leave for another country or Korea and then re-enter the U.S. I’d like to know if this is true.

Among the many questions about changing or extending status within the U.S., the claim that ‘if you extend your stay period within the U.S., you can never leave for another country or Korea and re-enter the U.S. again’ is not true.
Even if you change or extend your status within the U.S., as long as you hold a valid visa upon leaving and returning, re-entry won’t be a problem.
The typical problem case is when you can’t obtain a visa matching your purpose of stay through the U.S. Embassy in Korea.
For example, if you entered on a tourist visa and then changed to E-2 status within the U.S. after investing a small amount, there could be cases where, even though you were operating a business under E-2 status within the U.S., the embassy won’t issue you an E-2 visa.
